Plan your first Muara Arts gallery visit for 1 November 2026 or later, avoiding Tuesdays. Choose Masjid Jamek for the shorter advertised walk, or Pasar Seni if you are arriving by Kajang Line MRT or pairing the gallery with Central Market.
As of 6 October 2026, the gallery has not yet opened: its official website confirms the November opening and says tickets are live. The performing arts theatre is a separate project planned for 2029, not part of the November gallery opening.
Pick a date around the Tuesday closure
The gallery repurposes six Art Deco shophouses in Medan Pasar, as described in The Star’s 30 July opening announcement. Its official visit page gives the address as 18, Medan Pasar, City Centre, 50050 Kuala Lumpur, with hours of Wednesday–Monday, 10am–6pm.
Opening day, 1 November 2026, is a Sunday. Monday 2 November falls within the published schedule; Tuesday 3 November is the first regular closure day. Check the venue’s notices before travelling for any exceptions.
You do not need to build the trip around opening day. The inaugural exhibition, A–Z of Southeast Asian Art: A Critical Dictionary, is listed for 1 November 2026–4 April 2027 on the official homepage. It brings together more than forty artists working in painting, sculpture, textiles, installation, video and works on paper, each engaging with a term connected to the region’s culture, ecology, geography, history or politics. See the exhibition description to decide whether to make it your main cultural stop.
Announced ticket prices and payment
Muara Arts’ official ticket announcement gives these admission rates:
| Visitor category | ASEAN | Non-ASEAN |
|---|---|---|
| Adult | RM25 | RM50 |
| Concession: senior, student or visitor with disability | RM12 | RM20 |
| Child under 12 | Free | Free |
These are the announced rates. Use the official ticket page to confirm the final price, available date and admission conditions before paying. Check what documentation your category requires; do not assume a concession applies automatically. The gallery states that it accepts cashless payments only on its visit page.
For an opening-day trip, arrange your gallery ticket before the rest of the day. Do not assume a listed talk or other event is included in gallery admission unless its booking terms say so.
Masjid Jamek or Pasar Seni?
Muara Arts advertises a seven-minute walk from Masjid Jamek and a nine-minute walk from Pasar Seni. These are the venue’s estimates, not allowances for waiting at crossings, rain or mobility needs. Both approaches are linked from its getting-here page.
| Choose | When it makes sense |
|---|---|
| Masjid Jamek | You are on the Ampang/Sri Petaling LRT lines, or want the shorter advertised walk. |
| Pasar Seni | You are on the Kajang MRT line, or want Central Market as your other stop. |
| Either | You are on the Kelana Jaya LRT line, which serves both stations. Let your onward plan decide. |
Avoid a rail transfer just to save two minutes of advertised walking. If step-free access is essential, contact Muara Arts before booking to confirm the entrance and access to the exhibition spaces.
Keep the first visit compact
A practical suggested sequence is Masjid Jamek → Muara Arts → Central Market → Pasar Seni. If arriving by MRT, use Pasar Seni for the gallery approach and visit the market on your return. Aim for the gallery at around 10am, subject to your booking, then choose lunch or another indoor stop rather than committing to a long heritage walk.
Carry an umbrella and leave room to wait out heavy rain. For the market portion, use the Central Market visit plan. One exhibition and one nearby stop make a manageable first visit.
