KLDEX: Choose a Flexible Museum Stop or Book the Theatre Combo

Compare KLDEX museum and combo prices, reservation rules and rail approaches, with visit timing that limits Jalan Ampang walking in the heat.

Choose museum-only for more flexible timing; choose the museum-and-theatre combo if you want a live performance and can commit to a reserved show. For adults, the combo costs RM19 more than museum admission alone.

The Kuala Lumpur Durian Experience Centre (KLDEX), at MaTiC on Jalan Ampang, officially opened on 4 July 2026. It combines durian heritage exhibits with theatre, tasting, dining and retail—not simply a place to buy fruit. Bernama’s opening report confirms the launch and location.

What each ticket adds

The museum covers durian origins, Malaysian growing regions and cultivation, including displays about 27 varieties, a simulated orchard and a Malay house. It suits visitors who want context for the fruit without organising their day around a performance. KLDEX’s museum page describes these exhibits.

The combo adds live cultural storytelling. KLDEX describes its theatre as an immersive performance using visual storytelling and audience interaction. Choose it for the performance itself, rather than assuming it is a tasting package. The theatre description explains the format.

Published admission prices

Prices below are listed on KLDEX’s official visit page as of 4 October 2026.

Visitor category Museum only Museum + theatre
Malaysian adult with MyKad RM39 RM58
Malaysian child with MyKad RM31 RM48
Foreign adult with passport RM49 RM68
Foreign child with passport RM39 RM58

The upgrade is RM19 per adult or RM17 per child. Bring the relevant identification; ask about child-age eligibility before paying, as the price list does not define it. KLDEX advertises guided tasting and food as other experiences, but this admission list does not specify tasting inclusions. Confirm any package inclusions rather than treating the ticket as a food allowance.

Reservations and the hours that matter

As of 4 October 2026, the museum’s published hours are 10:30am–10:30pm. The centre’s headline midnight closing applies to the durian shop, not the museum. F&B is listed as noon–11pm. KLDEX publishes separate hours for each section.

Theatre shows are by reservation. The homepage lists 12:15pm, 2:30pm, 4:15pm and 6pm, but the dedicated theatre page displays only the first three. Do not build an evening route around 6pm without confirmation. Compare the visit schedule with the theatre page.

KLDEX recommends advance booking, particularly at weekends and peak periods; walk-ins may be accepted subject to availability. That makes museum-only more flexible, not a guarantee of entry without booking. Use the official booking contact, WhatsApp +60 11-6879 3111, to request your date, ticket type and—if applicable—showtime. Ask for confirmation of the show, its language and arrival time. KLDEX’s visitor guidance notes that selected sessions may offer multiple languages.

Rail approach: put the walk before midday

The address is MaTiC, Lot 152, Jalan Ampang, 50300 Kuala Lumpur. KLDEX recommends KLCC LRT station or Bukit Nanas Monorail station, estimating an eight-minute walk from either. Treat that as the venue’s estimate, not a guaranteed pace or a promise of continuous shade. Official directions include a map pin.

Use whichever station best fits your existing rail journey rather than adding a transfer to chase a marginally shorter walk. Leave extra time for crossings, rain and finding the entrance.

  • Museum-only, morning: aim for the 10:30am opening. Do the station walk first, then visit the exhibits. If staying for lunch, remember that F&B starts at noon.
  • Combo, morning arrival: request the 12:15pm show and ask whether you can enter the museum at 10:30am on that ticket. This reduces midday approach walking and avoids a rushed arrival. The return walk may still be in the heat.
  • Museum-only, evening: use the later museum hours if flexibility matters more than theatre. Keep the return walk weather-dependent; wait indoors if a downpour makes walking uncomfortable.

The museum and theatre are on the first floor, according to KLDEX’s floor layout. If stairs are a barrier, ask about lift access before booking; the published layout description does not establish a step-free route.
